Eugenia Mitrakas OAM graduated with a combined degree of Law and Arts from the University of Melbourne.

Eugenia has been practising as a sole practitioner for over 40 years before transitioning to a partnership with Peter Roylance.

She has excelled as a lawyer to the Greek and broader community.

Eugenia was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australian (OAM) in January 1997 for her contribution to the Greek Community through the Australian Greek Society for Care of the Elderly, (now Fronditha Care), The Australian Greek Welfare Society (now Pronia) and The Hellenic Studies Forum.

Eugenia has served on numerous Boards in a pro bono capacity including the Board of Examiners, Victoria Law Foundation, Fronditha Care, Pronia and The Greek International Legal and Medical Conferences.

Eugenia was the first Greek female solicitor in Australia to practice law. She was also the first female, ethnic and sole practitioner to serve on the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria. During her 9 years on the Council she chaired several of its Committees including The Admission to Practice Committee, The Board of Examiners and The Liquor Licencing Committee. She initiated and Chaired a Committee on Court Interpreter Services. This Committee made a submission to government which resulted in the passing of legislation for the establishment of the he National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters in Victoria (NAATI).

She was the first female to be appointed a Notary Public in Victoria. Eugenia served on the Committee of the Society of Notaries for nearly 15 years including two terms as President of the Society. She is the only female to have ever served as President of the Society.

In 2025 Eugenia attended a ceremony in Greece having been awarded the highest distinction by the  Centre of  Ecumenical Hellenism (Athens, Greece) in recognition of her lifelong contribution to the global Greek community and the international esteem with which she represented Australia.

In June 2026,  Eugenia was awarded a Certificate of Special Recognition by the jury of the Justitia Awards in Vienna, Austria.

The official citation reads as follows:

“Certificate of Special Recognition:

Eugenia Mitrakas is hereby specially recognised by the jury of the Justitia Awards 2026 for her pioneering legal career and leadership in the Greek Australian community, as well as for her international honours and recognition by the University of Melbourne and the Ecumenical Foundation of Hellenism."
